npj Digital Medicine Publishes Videra Research on Single-Question Video Mental Health Assessment

Screening for depression, anxiety, and trauma normally means three separate questionnaires totaling dozens of checkbox questions. In a study published in Nature’s npj Digital Medicine, Videra Health’s research team showed that all three can be replaced by a single open-ended video question: “How have you been feeling lately?” The AI analyzes both the words a person uses and the sound of their voice to estimate how they would have scored on each of the three standard questionnaires.

Tested with data from more than 2,400 people, the model identified those at risk about 90% of the time for all three conditions, cut assessment time to roughly a third, and performed consistently across age, gender, and racial and ethnic groups. Just as important, patients liked it: over 90% said they’d be willing to use video-based screening. Shorter, easier check-ins mean more patients actually complete them, and fewer people struggling in silence go unnoticed.
