New Study in Women's Health Reports Validates Videra's AI Screening for Postpartum Depression

In a peer-reviewed study published in Women’s Health Reports, Videra Health researchers showed that a short voice recording, a mother simply answering one open-ended question on her smartphone, can reliably flag risk for postpartum depression. Instead of asking her to fill out the standard written questionnaire, Videra’s AI listens to both what she says and how she says it, picking up on subtle cues in tone, pacing, and word choice that reflect mood.

In a study of 275 pregnant and postpartum women, the technology correctly identified about 84% of those whose questionnaire scores indicated elevated risk. That matters because postpartum depression affects roughly one in eight mothers, yet it frequently goes undetected: many women are never screened, and others understate symptoms on paper forms. Turning screening into something as simple as leaving a voice message means far more mothers can be checked, and those who need help can be connected to care sooner.
