96% of Sidekick's Notes Clear Clinician Review Without Changes

For an adolescent in 24/7 care, every day of treatment has to be justified to a payer, and the clinical note is what does the justifying. A thin or late note is the opening an insurer needs to deny a claim or claw back money already paid, and a single audit can effectively lock a program out of a payer’s network. Insurers increasingly use their own automated tools to find documentation holes and reverse payments, so Ascent’s view is that providers should be just as well equipped. Strong, audit-ready notes are how Ascent stays a step ahead, and how it keeps kids in treatment. The cost of weak documentation is not only revenue; it is a child’s access to care.

Ascent chose Sidekick in early 2025 because it lived inside the EMR clinicians already used: no jumping out to a third-party tool, no copy-and-paste, no fixing the formatting. Sidekick drafts across the formats Ascent’s clinicians rely on every day, including DAP, SOAP, and GIRP notes alongside individual and group documentation, rather than forcing every session into a single template. The rollout saw the early skepticism most documentation tools face, but it turned quickly: some of the biggest early critics became the tool’s biggest advocates, and adoption scaled from a first facility to enterprise-wide across all nine.

Every Sidekick draft passes through the clinician who ran the session before it reaches the chart or a payer, and across more than 17,000 notes, 96% were submitted with no amendments at all. 99.5% were kept with one edit or fewer, and fewer than one in a thousand needed more than two. The notes hold up where it counts most: Ascent’s internal insurance billing team, which relies on clinical documentation to justify coverage, became some of the tool’s strongest champions, and utilization review callbacks asking clinicians to correct and resubmit notes have dropped to next to zero. Clinicians now finish documentation in far less time, giving them more face-to-face time with the kids they are there to help, and giving Ascent the reserve capacity to carry larger caseloads.
