Essence Features Videra Health in Black Maternal Mental Health Week Resource Guide
In honor of Black Maternal Mental Health Week, Essence rounded up eight resources to help new Black mothers and moms-to-be feel seen, heard, and supported, and Videra Health’s free Check on Mom postpartum depression screener leads the list, praised as “super convenient and easy to navigate.” The recognition speaks directly to why Check on Mom exists: Black women in the U.S. are nearly three times as likely to die from pregnancy-related causes as white women, and postpartum depression too often goes undetected because screening never happens or symptoms are understated on paper forms. A screener a new mom can complete from her phone in minutes helps close that gap for the mothers who face the highest risk.
The guide places Videra alongside organizations like the Shades of Blue Project, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and Therapy for Black Girls, all working to improve maternal mental health outcomes for women of color.
